Also stops fuel can filler tube from going in too far.
Believe Honda are quite pessimistic over fuel capacity ( let's face it most fill up to the top anyway)
you could be right about stopping the fuel filler tube going in too far......it could then damage the fuel filter... assume there is one (motorbikes certainly have one).... thats in the bottom of the tank. I don't think it can indicate the max fuel level as its so low down.
Adding Fuel
1. Remove the fuel tank cap.
2. Add fuel to the bottom of the fuel level limit in the neck of the fuel tank. Do not overfill. Wipe up spilled fuel before starting the engine.

Now we know...... they could have made it a bit higher!!
I just use it as a guide that I need to put more fuel in.... :-)
