Help with Honda HRX Clutch

Hi, can anyone help me please, I am trying to take off the clutch plates on my Honda HRX 537 but the bolt I am trying to undo is just turning the crank and belt and I want to know how I can create a resistance to be able to get it undone. Hope this makes sense. I’m sure if I can get it undone I will be able to see 3161929335?profile=RESIZE_710xany wear and order a new clutch to fit. Would an impact wrench work? I haven’t got one but I can get one if needed.

The cable is fine but when I cut grass the blades can be heard slowing down when under resistance and start turning again when the grass is flattened this is happening all the time and I’m pretty sure the clutch is worn.

  • Hello. If you have access to a compressor with impact tool it will come off easily. I was lucky to have this to do it. Jon

Can you not get a draft or a screwdriver through the holes to stop it turning, or hit the wrench or spanner with hammer and allow the the shock loosen it.

  • Big bit of wood jammed in between blade and mower deck.. I know you've taken blade off! I might have a spare clutch somewhere too

  • Hi , thanks for the replies. I managed to get hold of an impact driver but it still wouldn't come out. I will bite the bullet and take it to my local mower shop where I bought it.

    • You need a proper impact wrench, not a driver. Modern battery ones are usually better than air these days.

  • Another way is to lock the engine up............. take the plug out and with the piston well down the bore and going up on the compression stroke (both valves shut) , feed in a load of thick starter cord...... leave an end sticking out the plug hole or you'll have trouble getting it out after!   Once the nut is loosened, turn the engine so the piston goes down and pull the cord out. If you haven't done so,  I'd check the cable is moving freely before taking it all apart.

  • i do not have a HRX but have a HRC its a long time since i did it but i rember i had to remove the plastic under deck insert have you checked its not a left hand thred
