Drive suddenly stopped suggests it could be the belt has snapped or come off. Other than that it might be cable has snapped but i imagine you would have noticed straight away if that was the case.A problem with the gears transmitting drive to the wheels would usually appear on one side only.
The finish is good, I wouldn't say excellent but I don't do many weekly short cuts, except a c grade wedding venue which comes up lovely on a weekly cut.
Like any mulched too long or wet it won't mulch!!!
Briggs and Screp em - You were bang on, the belt came off, due to going over a piece of wood, and making it ping off. Always good to have info on your kit to help on basic maintenance.
