Hello from a Newbie..

As per title really....I've been a 'silent browser' for some time now, picking up tips and hints along the way, along with some invaluable information.... So thought I should register to firstly, thank all the contributors on here for the information they freely pass on to others. And secondly, hope to be able to help others...So, about me,My name is Nick, 22' and I live in West Berkshire, originally from South Wales,I'm currently out of work, and have been since the birth of my daughter In June 2010' due to my partners medical complications. However, trying to find full time employment which caters for my 'availability' needs at home, have proven impossible,So what better to do, than work for yourself, and what's even better, work for yourself, doing something you enjoy...So, basically, at the current time, I have not started up, but I'm gathering all the information and equipment to start..I have purchased hand tools, a Stihl Kombi 90r, with brushcutter/strimmer, and long reach hedge cutters, also the carbon extension piece.I need to purchase a handheld hedge cutter, and also a couple of mowers...Lawn Mowing, Hedge Cutting will be predominantly my business for the foreseeable future. I am very interested in Water Gardens, Ponds etc, as i am a keen water gardener myself, and keep koi carp. I am also open to other aspects of hard landscaping, driveways, paving etc, as I have self employed extended family members in this area of landscaping. So, that's me...I'm after some advice on mowers, and handheld hedge cutters really...I have a budget of about £600 at present, and would really really like to get a mower and hedge cutter for that, I'm not put off by second hand, as long as it has been looked after, and if fully serviceable...Oh, I have a vehicle, a 10day old Nissan NV200 combi, which I will be using, so space is a little limited, (the seats are folded up to create the van)ThanksNick @ soon to be Sleeper Gardens

  • Hi Nick, welcome to LNJ, not sure where west berks covers, but I'm over near Henley, give me a shout if you need anything, only started on my own in October, so good to meet other newbies!

  • Welcome! best of luck to you. What made you chose 'sleeper gardens'?

  • Hi, thanks for all the welcoming messages, it very kind.

Sleeper gardens, basically, I'm very interested in utilising the uses of sleepers in the garden. I've done it myself, I have a pond built from sleepers, and have used them for the front fascia to a back filled concrete wall, used them for steps, flowerbeds, wheelie bin stores, etc, as you know, the uses are endless....
    I just love them.

And this is what initially I wanted the business to focus on, but through my learning, it's not going to be the only thing I can do....

I liked the name, so stuck with it...?
