I'd charge £220-250 incl waste removal
you'll still need to give the width..... is it 6' wide 3' wide? Has the top been trimmed regularly in the past so its very dense? makes a big difference to the price.
As Graham says, you cannot simply state a price for taking 3 feet off the top of a hedge. It could be that the hedge has topped years ago at around 8 or 9 feet, with regular trimming over the years increasing the height slightly every year.
In that case the trunks at 7feet will be thick and a completely different job to a hedge that has never had any height reduction.
Thanks for replies and I appreciate the factors mentioned . The top has been trimmed regularly and I did have the width thinned out at start of season so guess it's about 3.5 ft wide . Just wanted to get some idea before asking for quotes .as prices vary so much around here . No doubt the job will have to be seen and assessed beforehand .
To my mind the real cost is the waste disposal... I'd be tempted to get it cut, chipped onsite and then the waste spread as a mulch at the base
Thanks Adam . When i had width reduced at start of season I used a chap who I knew who used to take waste to a farm where they either burned or composted . Obviously he was able to give me a better price. He had a motor bike accident and now out of business for awhile . Crazy how the cost of green waste disposal is same as other trade waste when it is composted and sold back to us ! Does that mean a business with a chipper would be cheaper than one with just a van / pick up ?
I think you will pay more for the efficiency factor of team with chipper , One cutting , possibly Two clearing up and feeding the chipper but probably quicker than one person cutting the hedge then clearing up and loading up their vehicle ,hard work without someone to help .
As Adam points out clearing and disposing of the brash is often where the time goes .
Could you compromise and deal with the waste yourself ?
Thanks ... yep disposing of waste myself is an option . Going to try and assess how much there is likely to be and even hiring proper ladder / platform to do it myself as have the tools
