Hedge reduction and thinning

Hi all just been asked to reduce and thin a large area of native hedging the client is having building work done .i know there is guide line when to cut or not for the nesting birds i c'ant find the threadi told the client this his reply was is will get cut if i do it or notdo any one cut the hedges back alot now and top by at least 2mi know its money but i dont like to destroy nesting bird nestsyour input please

    Better you do it with some care than someone else do it without caring - because it sounds like there is nothing that is going to stop him. Agricultural land hedges shouldn't be cut between 1st March and end August. Do you think he could be persuaded to wait a little in the longer because the later in the season it is the less likely you will find nesting birds.

    Earlier in the year I refused to do one and then someone else did a horrendous job of it, and I wished after I'd done it myself because it would have been far more sympathetic. I now do them but I wouldn't reduce by as much as 2 metres, I will only tidy up straggly branches and where possible I do it by hand. Would he accept a tidy up trim now and a really good prune is a few weeks time? To stop some clients I have told them that I've seen evidence of nesting birds and said its a criminal offence to destroy nests
