Hayter 48 vs bbc

For everyone who followed our post on rear roller mower with variable speed and bbc along with reasonable weight,  we bought a Hayter 48 , not pro as wanted variable speed and its only going to do a couple of hours per week.

So thoughts after first use yesterday,  yes light and maneuverable,  adequate power, but !!!! the pull cord lies across the grass flap so when lifting the flap to take the box off it comes into contact with the cord which is also lifted. This is an £1100 mower not some Chinese junk !

The retaining hoop that is welded to the handlebars which the cord runs through is in the wrong position allowing the cord to lie over the grass flap. Perhaps we have  a Friday machine ? Or is this just another example of poor design?

Anyway contacting dealer for their response,  pointless going to Hayter as past experience shows they don't respond and have no interest in end user .

  • We've found with Hayters that the roller and drive are quite delicate- load and unload with care, and always transport on lowest setting.  On some of our machines we've got the mechanic to weld steel strips to protect the plastic chain covers, as they rub and wear through.
