Hayter 48 bbc problem

Hi all, problem with my 48, when I engage the leaver to activate the blade the engine cuts out,seems like the blade is so stiff in turning, it's a 2011 model.??

    Is the engine warm? Are the rev's high enough?

    Thought that about revs, but cranked up to full power !! Did kick in just, but a banging noise and something like a carbon type of spacer or gasket broke and a piece fell from under the deck ??
