Has turf care machinery changed over the years ?

If, in the background, you’re a ‘’techie’ like me you’ll be interested in this article from Lantra;

”Not much has changed over the years since Edwin Budding’s design first brought cylinder technology to the turf care industry.” I often hear this statement and have said it myself from time to time when speaking at seminars internationally. But is the statement correct and is it right for the turf care industry to continue to think that nothing has changed? If not, what changes have we seen since Edwin Budding’s original designs?

    Reading that article then takes you down a worm hole of wikipedia. Very intersting read tho.

  • i do not think the basic cutting system has changed, more the materials and adding a engin insted of having a donky (or a apprentice) pull it about

    I wonder if we’ll ever see the redefinition of a what a mower is in our lifetime?

    Could we see laser cutting mowers - no ICE, battery powered, no blade spinning a 3k rpm, minimal noise, perfect grass leaf cuts, quiet fan collection etc...

    Just a thought .....

  • I guess robots are going to play a large part from now on in.  Commercially  Airports and Airfields are the perfect places for these!  Its funny how they have spent the last 20 years developing operator comfort now manufactures will spend the next 20 years developing operaterless options!
