If you are not sure about which tools to get, buy cheap and if the ones you use all the time break, buy the best you can. Otherwise if you buy the best of everything you might find that you don't give some of the tools loads of use and could have saved your money!
I know it doesn't really answer your question but I would recommend that you buy your tools where you can pick them up and see if they "feel right" as mail ordering items you haven't tried before can lead to disappointment.

I would stay away from any b&q range as it won't last.
Bahco pruning saws, felco secateurs (£35 posted on ebay), and I can fall back on B&Q for things like saws and the 4lb mallet.
