Guarantees... what do you offer?

Hi everyone,What sort of guarantees do you all offer with your work: Fencing, Paving, Monoblock, Artificial Grass?Only asking out of curiosity as some larger businesses in our area are offering 10years on driveways and paving, 8 years on fencing and 5 years on artificial grass. This is putting us to the side because we only offer 3 years on everything we do but wondering if we should up this to 5 years to tie in with the bigger businesses?

  • Why would you offer 3 years on fencing. What against posts breaking fence corroding .what if client grows a laurel hedge against said fencing or ivy sprouts up and ruins it.no guarantee so it's a no no from me.

8 years is mad on fencing unless you overspec and have 6 inch square posts etc. You can't get well treated timber anymore so it just rots too quickly. Or you could get a real big storm blow it over.
  • our terms and conditions for guarantees are strict and do declare that they don't cover any damage caused by any person etc this would include planting trees etc that would cause damage to the fence itself.

I agree with the 8 year guarantees being too long, I'd say our 3 years is ample but just wanting to know what others are offering as well?
  • I don't offer any guarantee as such. Never found this to be an issue. I offer my goodwill in respect that any issues that arise which we could be responsible for I will fix and some were not! I find this works well.
  • In over 40 years of business, I have never issued hard and fast guarantees. With all hard landscape construction, we made damn sure we built to last. I don't see why anything should fail before 10 years, providing it is constructed well. Obviously soft wood in soil will be the exception. I only guarantee plants if we have a maintenance programme for the first year.
