Green Wizard Drop Spreader

Hi all i have a green wizard drop spreader recently paints been flaking and rust showing which is jamming the shutter opening plate. Wondered what products i could use to stop the rust and get the plate working again. Will remove and clean but more concerned about rust long term apart from bio grease any ideas?

      Thanks John I'll give it a go it's only a year old and paints already flaking! Stripped sanded and wd40 spray today about all I can do for now I've got hammerite I've used on my van but that was to be last resort. For the price you'd have thought they'd do a better paint job.
