Grass reinforcement

Hey guys have any of you had any experiance or feedback a few months later from installing either the mesh or plastic crates for grass reinforcement?
Is there any advantages or disadvantages of either option- beside the obvious installation differences.

  • Hi Brendan, ive used the grass reinforcement mesh a couple of times. Ive found it to be satisfactory where very light traffic is required but if the grass is going to take a lot of abuse then it will just turn to mud. I never had any complaints from the customers who i installed it for but i used some on my own garden where i used to park my trailer and after a year there was no grass left so i had to lift it and stone the area instead. Hope this helps.

  • its going to be used as a parking space for one car, I had seen a lot of advertising for the mesh but never actually met any one who has installed or had it installed to see if it is just a temporary solution or weather it could be used long term.

  • Hi Brendan,

I have used the crate style in the past and it holds up well, but the important part is to get a good well compacted sub-base in to stop the area sinking or moving. Then lay your crates/panels as per the manufacturers spec. Do not over fill the gaps with top soil and then seed. If the parking area is going to spend more time parked on than seeing sunlight I would suggest not using as the grass needs to be able to grow strong to make it work.

  • they dont use the area during the day and have lived there for a few years without any of the grass dying or sinking, thats why was considering the mesh over the crates to try and save them some money
