Franchises throw crazy amounts of money into their marketing, and the public believe they are the experts because of this. Not just the big national firms, but also other expanding regional firms, who employ staff who simply do as they are told rigidly to churn out lawn treatments by the book, one size fits all style.
I feel much happier knowing I offer tailored lawn care that lasts. If a client wants to us <insert name here> then fair enough. If they hire me to only cut the grass I'll be sending them the occasional email to highlight how I feel their lawn could be improved with different treatment and leave it to them to decide.
How often are you mowing it, weekly/fortnightly?
Why do you think its wrong what they are doing?
I cut it weekly and it grows 100mm in a week. Anyone who knows anything about grass would not put down fertilizer on that.sorry but I do get annoyed at them
I just look at it as more money for me! I have a customer who has a company to come and feed the mostly moss lawn and hes happy cos he gets loads of moss I'm happy because I get to mow it more often. Maybe i'm looking at it wrong!
Right or wrong? I suppose it's where you want to be and what is your motivation Ben.
I have suggested that I scarify it for him but he's just not that bothered. I think he's had a quote from the lawn franchise and it was going to cost around £500.
Wow nearly 4" in a week, crazy.
The weather over the last month has seen rapid growth but it'll calm down soon. it's not this way every spring. At least it keeps you in work :)
Why is it the franchises fault? The customer has asked them to do it! Do you really think they are going to turn work away?
What is wrong is the environmental impact of applying fertiliser when it is not needed. However, I do apply some Lawn Feed for several customers as that is what they want me to do. I apply an autumn Feed throughout the winter months and then follow up with a spring Feed as required. Both these customers I mow weekly, the others fortnightly. I will not be feeding the lawns until perhaps July onwards if necessary.
