I've just added the following comment to a previous thread but I feel the whole topic of gender and equality needs thrashing out.

Disappointing to see the headline on ProLandscaper focussing on gender rather than skills.

Gender is no barrier at Glendale: http://prolandscapermagazine.com/gender-is-no-barrier-at-glendale/

If the landscape industry (or any industry for that matter) is truly going to create equality then it needs concentrate on what attributes a candidate is bringing to a job rather than whether the candidate is male or female.

Just by using these words 'Gender is no barrier at Glendale' tells me that those who write and think about gender as an issue considers there to be a barrier.

In my opinion just by using the word gender when talking about careers is discrimination in itself.

Is equality - or lack of it - in the landscaping industry more a sign of an outdated culture or is there still tangible discrimination?
