Gator blades

Good morning, I came across Oregon gator blades on the interweb, wondered if they might improve mulching/ bagging performance on my Toro recycler. Anyone using/ used them? Regards, Martin.

    unlikely.

Gator blades have cuts in the 'sail' and so will have a much lower airflow and should therefore be worse at bagging.  The mulching performance of a recycler is already pretty good within reasonable cutting conditions so I can't see why Toro would have withheld a better blade.  They already offer gator blades for their zeroturns - Atomic - I think they call them, but they add nothing over the standard recycling blades that I can see.

If you are using your recycler in the dry they are pretty good.  If it is even slightly damp then they will pack the deck block and smear grass pulp over the lawn, making one almighty mess.

For me Toro in the dry every time.  Etesia if it is even slightly wet.

    • Thanks, yes I have to agree the Toro is pretty good in dry conditions, just wondered if a different blade might improve mulching as sometimes I have to make a second pass. pretty hopeless on damp/ wet grass whether bagging or mulching.  might have to invest in an etesia or Stihl this year.

Have used the same Toro Recycler for the last Eight years and find it excellent on dry grass .

One observation i have noticed its more efficient on longer stretches of lawn and always cuts in one pass than it is on smaller lawns where it can take Two , sometimes Three passes to mulch or bag to the desired height .

If you listen to the engine on short stretches compared to long stretches it just ticks over and hardly pulls but different beast on a long stretch and quick .

For its small size it seems to like a big lawn of long grass but as you say wet grass stops it in its tracks instantly .
