When positioned on exposed roof gardens(especially penthouses), we've found that many plants either fail, or struggle with the wind, cold and the general British weather conditions they experience throughout the year.

Any advice/experiences on attractive trees/plants that can handle these conditions? The gardens in question are in central London, if that assists.
