Fuel cans - Best type??

I am currently using the metal red 10l fuel cans that have the detachable spout (photo below). Ive not had much luck with them as they end up leaking at the point the spout attaches to the can.

Does anyone know a permanent fix for this??

Alternatively is there such a fuel can that has a pre-moulded sealable spout permanently attached??

Alternatively is there just a better design type fuel can??

  • I've always used the Stihl plastic 5l containers with one of their "special" spouts. https://www.frjonesandson.co.uk/products/stihl-filling-system-for-f...; Once the "can" is full, screw the spout back on and you just leave it there till you  next refill the "can"    When you're filling anything up,  you  just push the spout into the machine tank, the fuel comes out and stops when the tank is full..... brilliant..... never fails to work.... no funnel needed...no mess.  Perhaps 5l containers are too small for you though?

    • Brilliant, thanks Graham ... that's just the kind of thing im after .... i wished ide asked about this before.

Im assuming i will also need a Stihl petrol can or do you know if compatible with this type??

I use the 5ltr metal type the same as the 10ltr but thin and tall, and i find i dont need to use the spout as it pours from the side just fine even into hedge cutters and strimmers i have  red for 2 stroke mix and green for just petrol, when using the auto stop spouts make sure you relese any pressure build up before fueling or it just squirts fuel everywhere when fueling.

      • I've a metal 5l can and the spout wasn't the same thread so bought the Stihl ones.   I've had my 2 Stihl spouts for many years and they've been great and save so much hassle.  One minor problem I encountered after a couple of years (though can't remember the exact details).. a circular disc at the end became damaged and I replaced it with a large washer the same size and a selftapping screw.. Looked fine and still working fine after years of use.  I use the clear one for the 2 stroke, red for plain.

  • Bought 2 chainsaw cans and use them all the time, nozzles left on - if you go that route don't buy the Husky versions - the nozzles don't work properly after a while.

    • PRO

Yep I have a couple of the husky cans and the O ring swells on the nozzles and will not allow it shut off when removed from the fuel tank so I have to remember to push it shut before I remove it.

      • PRO

That happened to my stihl ones eventually too.

        • How long did the Stihl ones last - have been thinking about replacing mine with Stihl, having second thoughts, they aint cheap!
