  • this is quite common in the glasgow area and it seems to be that most complaints are against the travelling community in fact when felling a tree at the weekend i was stopped by the police and asked for my details they then went to my customer and asked her if she was okay and asked her if she had been pestered into getting the work done she promptly replied that she had not and that we had been recomended to her and that was that

i honestly did not mind this hapening at all in fact i think the police should be doing more of this to try and rid our industry of these paracites

Don't be amazed. As a personal aside, my mother lives alone, with lot's of support from family and agencies because she wants to live in her own home, tend her greenhouse and enjoy her pond.  She has dementia and was conned out of £100 to wash the front of house down by a knock at the door.  Luckily she refused to have back done.  Front door is give away because is has a lock that can be accessed by nurses from outside.  So if you know what to look for and can be such a low life you can find some £ notes.

On the positive side got local CSPO involved and now they have neighbour watch running

  • a few years ago i went round to see my nan, when i got there i could tell something was bothering her, she finally said, "i think i've been a bit silly" Now bearing in mind my nan was almost totally blind and at the time nearly 90 years old, and lived alone. she had opened the door (Something i did tell her off about) to a "salesman" with a basket full of cleaning products, He talked her into buying 2 teatowels for £30 !!!!

I spent the next hour and a half driving around the village looking for him, I was furious and wanted to, how can i put it? Point out the error of his ways! unfortunately i didn't find him although its probably a good thing or i'd probably be doing some time right now!

I hate people that take advantage of elderly peoples vunerabilitys!!  Scum of the earth!!

  • OK Paul

Always two sides of a story - enjoyed your tales of "sane" people being taken in. Guess the saying that "If it's to good to be true" it can't be.  Someone offered me 12.8% PA (before tax) on an investment - very low risk - but a risk

  • How weird... I was just taking about this with my GF - we know of someone who has just paid £75 for 30 mins of poor weeding... a cold caller claiming to be from the council exploiting elderly folk.

These people are scum and deserve nothing but the worst. Exploiting those who are trusting is the lowest business practise possible, if you can even call it a business practise.

  • We recently had a guy trying to sell us an arial pic of our house, framed for £55.00.  I laughed at him, saying no chance. Eventually after some haggling, he came down to £20.00, so i had a look and thought "I suppose it may look Ok" so, quite chuffed at knocking him down, bought it.

I immediately rang my mum who's 85 and lives just down the road to warn her.  "too late she said, he's already been here...............got him down to £15.00 then told him we didnt want it and he want away!"

  • You know you can just go on Google earth and print screen?
