My take :
Go for the Honda engined version whatever model you choose
If you go single speed self propelled, check out walking speed suits you or be prepared to have dealer or yourself do a modification (new pulley etc) to increase walking speed. Some complain it is to slow, but totally depends on your stride.
We have both single speed and variable speed models which are expensive and heavier.
Push versions do however have less to go wrong so are lighter but depends on your likely use....
n.b. You can pick up some good 2nd hand Etesia Push mowers at times on ebay (with less chance of faults).
I believe most LA/Councils choose push versions based on cost etc- fact or fiction ?
Oregon do good alternative non-oem std & mulching blades.
hi robbie andrew from belfast we use the briggs push models nice and light not much to go wrong and youve got them at a good price cyril johnston carryduff over £700
self propelled always it will pulll you along at the end of the day when you are a bit weary or in long grass. i think the Kawasaki engines are far better than the honda unless you can find one that is made in Japan rather than Europe
I like the look of the pro model, we have picked up a new contract this year with a lot of mowing in it but it does not have to be roller and some of it is not perfect grass but just want to do it it fast, anyone anyone used this model?
Bought a self propelled last year paid £880.00 for it!
However fantastic mower.
Only gripe is when you overfill the collection bag. The slightest clog will stop the blade from spinning, I think its a safety feature, but can be very annoying on times!
You need to regularly jet wash grass box from outside in and also the under deck. It needs good airflow to deliver grass firmly into box.....It helps tremendously to watch the air flow indicator :-)
I was debating on if I should reply to this or not but thought why not.
Working for etesia for 7 years I have got to know the machines very very very well, and a nice perk of the job is being able to take any machine I like home to test it out.
If any one was to ask me what machine I would prefer then for me it’s always a push mower.
I have a nice size garden which I can cut & collect in no time at all with a phe / pbe or phb mower because it will cut & collect as fast as I can walk (and I walk very fast, almost at most peoples jogging speed) also because it has not got the extra 4kg of transmission + cables leavers etc the phe or pbe (phb has a blade brake so has the 4-5kg extra weight) its light enough to lift in and out of the van and manoeuvre round obstacles with out causing much stress to me.
That’s just my view on what I always choose and something to think about if you’re a 1 man/woman show being transport and lifting of the machine on your own.
Also I notice your in north Ireland
I would have to advise against getting machines from non local dealers,
This could cause you big problems and harm the relationship with your local dealer.
Cyril johnstons is the place to go for NI and ask for a guy called harry galespy there

Thanks for the responses guys, i think I'm going go with a push and my local dealer -
Harry @ Cyril johnstons quoted me £560 (plus VAT) for the Etesia PRO 46 (Briggs & Stratton). He said he didn't sell that many of the Pro 46 with a Honda engine and it would be and extra £150.
Funny i spoke to him today before I read this post...
