How and where would you go about it?
The Revised code of practice with comes in to effect on the 1st of Ootober will probably include the follow recommendations:
Standard 1st aid training at work to be reduced from 4 to 3 days
Introduction of a new one day emergency 1st aid at work course.
All 1st aiders to attend an annual basic skill update.
After passing your 1st aid course - the certificate will be valid for three years. The re-qualification course will remain at two days.
You will need to consider special circumstances such as holiday cover and remote working - i.e. more than one qualified 1st aider may be required.
Like all H&S - you just need to be able to prove that you have taken all necessary steps to address the requirements. i.e. after the event of an incident you can prove that you have the relevant skills and procedures in place or face a fine or now even prison for serious H & S breaches!

First aid training is so important even if its a basic one which a one day course is. I attend the basic one day course which is basic but very useful as is a cool and carm head when the needs be.
Sadly about a year ago I attempted resuscitation on someone who unknown to me had suffered a clot. Even a basic course can save someones life and it should be made available to all employees as it is where I work.
yes Graeme. just noticed this as i posted mine.
i agree 1 day course is 'priceless' - i think ill finally do it asap /jan
I know this is an old post but I have recently completed my first aid course and duly received the required certificate - I last done a first aid two years ago and was quite amazed at how much you forget in this time and surprised at how techiques have changed!
If you haven't done a course recently, please seriously consider doing one ASAP!
