First Aid

Hi all was wondering what first aid kit everyone has on board there wagons. I am a one man band and I do like to be organised and priority for me are things like my first aid kit and fire extinguishers. I have my first aid kit in the van in a green box bolted to bulk head along with extinguisher. I think it's important to know where your kit is when working alone. I am looking at upgrading my first aid kit to a brightly coloured Pelli case with more in depth kit. Any thoughts and photos on this cheers all.

  • It's good to see someone thinking about thier safety. I have a First Aid Kit and extinguisher in my pickup. What's important is to check that your first aid kit is up to date and not soiled etc. Also check when the extinguisher was last pressure tested! I check out my kit in the leaner months and replace as necessary.
    • I know what you mean Andrew. I'm pretty organised and like things as clean and as tidy as I can get them.
  • Yes I have a standard first aid kit and a fire extinguisher in the van cab. Not had to use them yet though luckily.

    • Always good to have it there like o said as a one man band it's a must even if there are more of you

A couple of years back I cut through my knee with a hedge cutter, I went threw two arteries, blood was just pumping out, it was 15 minutes before an ambulance got to me, without my first aid kit on the van I would have surely been in a lot of trouble, I was working on my own... Always good working to have one in the van, the bigger the kit the better, I'd say plasters, eye wash etc, but also plenty of bandages and dressings, I replace mine every 2.5 years regardless of if its been used or not...I also carry an extinguisher in the cab and the back of the van... ;-)
    • Exactly what I'm talking about bud. Paramedics 15mintues if you didn't have a medic kit you would of bled out or worse.

I have two 1kg extinguishers one front one back.

First aid kit on bulk head in the front.

Contains alcohol wipes, bandages, dressing and pads, skin closure strips, saline pods, plasters, special finger plasters, tape, scissors etc.

I then have a hand wash in the side door with barrier cream, hand cleaner and sanitiser. Blue roll above and the hand wash is hot/cold. Has been a real useful thing when you have to clean up!!
    • Same here James I have a on board hot and cold wash also the difference between dirty hands eating your dinner and shitty hands lol
      • Simon, very nterested in your water set up. How did you get that sorted? Is it similar to a AA van?
        • Andrew if you find my face book page I will show you bud
