fencing

what do you do with old fence panels and posts do you charge to dispose of them or leave them on site for customers to dispose . and what is the best way to get rid of them we do not do much fencing but still end up with a big pile at the end of a year

We just 'cost in' to dispose of them and then remove to the local green waste site for reprocessing.

You could offer an option to leave on site or provide a disposal cost. Customers need to appreciate there is now a cost associated with all waste disposal and it is only likely to increase.

Another option is to 'time' disposal of pile to local scouts/round table for bonfire night ?

Yes as Gary says bonfire night is a good one! As long as you can either store or do work at the right times
    • If customer wants us to take them away we add a charge for removal we charge £2.50 per panel so far all the customers have been happy to pay as its easier for them than to have them left in the garden. Are local waste site takes them no problem.

I take them away and charge plenty for it. There is money to be made from rubbish!!
If they won't pay my charge which is not cheap point them in the direction of a skip company.
I charge just less than the equivalent skip would cost them(-15% or so)
You need to find local waste transfer station and speak to them and find out Thierry tipping charge and work in time , fuel and effort of taking it away.
  • the green waste site we use will not take any treated timber which is why i am asking

    • PRO
Mine won't either that's why it's more expensive to get rid of it has to go in general waste hrre

Ah ok. Guess we are lucky as our site processes all types of wood.

      • PRO

My site does it too (or did) they've not accepeted any for 6 months as there's a huge pile they're unable to shift. Don't know if that's a market thing? Or just they're asking too much for it.

      • PRO

Which site is that Gary? The site we used to take our wood to now only takes Grade A wood to chip. They won't except old decking or fence panels. We now use Leatherhead business tip which is £95 a tonne.

Sorry that should be 'accept' not except.
