Etesia PBTS Automatic Choke problems

WE recently purchased two new Etesia PBTS both fitted with an automatic choke and Briggs and Stratton engines. They both start perfectly from cold and adequately perform their work in one garden. After loading in van and travelling to next garden they refuse to start which is not much good when you are cutting several lawns after one another.WE have had them back to the dealer without much luck and on the last visit yesterday after leaving them there for half a day were told that Briggs and Stratton had advised the problem was due to" float bounce" during transportation from one garden to another and that the remedy was to turn off the fuel supply and back on prior to starting again. All sounds a bit weird and wonder if any one can help as these machines are useless if this situation continues.

Thanks in anticipation

ALWAYS TURN OFF THE FUEL at the tap when finished mowing each job. Most machines are gravity feed and will flood the carb very easily. Its not a hassle and a very good habit to get into.
  • Cheers-Brian.Never had to do this with any mower before but will persevere with what yourself and Briggs And Stratton say.

    Thanks again

Robert, we use PHTB & PHTS mowers - same mowers but Honda engined and do not see this problem, BUT we do on our Hayters ...funnily enough they use B&S engine :D

It seems a reasonably well know B&S engine problem if transported / bounced. Out mowers can easily do a 100 mile round trip on some of our schedules. We do turn fuel off, partly because you can start to smell it.

Personally I thin B&S need to step into the 21st Century ;-)

Someone suggested a sheet of thick, strong rubber matting across rear of van and load mowers onto them...could never find the right stuff tho.....

My hayter can be a bitch to start when it's warm, sorry to steal your topic ;)

  • I have the same issue with my B&S Intek Snapper mower, After a trip down a country lane the carb is flooded and a few good pulls will actually splatter fuel out of the exhaust - Turning the fuel tap off solves this - A good habbit to get into.
MY Etesia PHTS (Honda engine 0ro46) does not do this, although has had a similar problem in the past, which was due to the float needle being gummed up.
