Etesia demo

Had a quick demo with a few etesia mowers the other day. I was particularly interested in the dedicated mulcher. I thought they had a briggs engine but this one had kohler. I used it after it had been raining on grass where i was taking 1 to 2 " of grass off. As it is 3 speed i went through all 3 and it coped well with all of them - obviously it was best for the longer bits when i had it in first gear.

Finish was really impressive, many times better than my honda pro with the mulch plug inserted. There were no obvious clumps of grass left on the surface. When i inspected the mowing chamber there was no grass stuck to the walls at all, even though the grass was wet. Highly impressive. The machine is so light that i did not feel the need to engage the drive when on flat ground or when going down hill. It is possible to remove a part and convert the mower into rear discharge for really long grass. I did not try this.

I am sold on the principles of mulching but do have concerns about airflow and the grass not being sucked up like i see with my honda pro. Set the blades running with that and you can see the grass at either side of the deck being sucked towards the blade.

The other mower i tried was the pro51 with honda engine. That too was very impressive and left an excellent finish. If only etesia would put a honda engine on the mulcher.

  • Where did you demo these stu?

At the end of the year I intend to retire my PRO46 - its just too small for some of my lawns - and also my snapper mulcher - and Im looking to get a Pro51 for faster cutting of large lawns, and hopefuly budget allowing, a dedicated mulcher - Either John D or Etesia - somewhere local would be good.

  • Don't worry about etesias choice of engine on this machine. My ME53B disintegrated well before the engine showed any sign of imminent failure.

The ME53 is in my opinion the nicest mulcher to use on the market and would be my first choice if i had a boss buying them for me. However at its current asking price it is largely  irrelevant when compared to the competition. And unless they have been updated the cables are a joke.

  • What happened to it? They seem pretty rugged from what I remember?

    Hi David and mr scrapem,

I did the demo at Golf & Turf machinery Ltd in Wakefield (just off M62).  They just happen to be a pellenc dealer which is why i was there really. I dont know the current price of the machine as i never asked. Something for the future i think.
