Hi Helen :) Congrats on hiring! Just a quick heads-up that you'll need some employers' liability insurance (legal requirement) if you're employing :) So may be worth giving your insurer a shout!
Sorry I couldn't help with the contract situation but thought I'd quickly remind you :)
Didn't realise! Good to hear, though :) Hope you're able to find one that helps!
Have a little peek at https://www.gov.uk/employment-contracts-and-conditions
Thanks I have looked on there before but not found any sample contracts.
It was meant to be starter for 10 to give you details about what you should be able to include etc. Try using google, local councils are fairly good of having their employment contracts available or do what the rest of us do and seek / pay professional advice.
There is a basic template employment contract on the .Gov website as above (and has been for years). It gets regularly updated.
Be cautious about what else you find or get given. Unless you know your employment law it could well be useless and out of date, so could end up not worth the paper it's written on.
Would +1 Nick's comment. FSB is great for Employer support.
Join the FSB (http://www.fsb.org.uk/) and there is a section where you can download a template. They also have a 24hr legal advice line which is worth its weight in gold - I strongly recommend.
