Employer liability

Hi all

Would like to take someone extra on for the summer period, and have just had a quote for about £380 to increase the employers liability insurance for the remaining 9 months of the policy for 1 futher person.

Does that sound normal?  Sure we have done this in the past and not been so shocked at the price.

Thanks

Eve

I had this sort of thing with my truck insurance last year. I put my wife on the policy for the remaining 8 months or so. And paid about £90 yet at renewal it became about £75 less to have her on than the price before I put her on it if you can follow that?
I think insurance companies like to keep changes to renewal time. Just my thoughts
  • Hi Marc, it probably depends what type of work you're doing & who the clients are likely to be etc. A very rough guide for price is that it will be x2 what your standard policy was without employees - with insurers logic being that the risk is essentially doubled with two people instead of one.

However, you could always add an employee and then amend again when you no longer need the employee? You might then receive money back pro-rata?

If you used bonafide sub-contractors (i.e. pay an external firm who send any given employee to help on each day, using their own tools, materials and instruction etc) then you will not require employers' liability.

Hope that helps? Let me know if you've got any further questions :)  ^Bonny.

  • Do you use a broker? There is generally a work around, ive been in similar positions over the years, and my broker has tended to cancel one policy and refund the balance, then started a new policy with an insurer who is more suited to the change of business. I use A-Plan for all my company insurances 01202297031
