Echo strimmer

Hi, my petrol stihl fs55 strimmer is getting a bit tired so I think I shall treat myself to a new one soon. I've had it for years so it has served me well but I could do with going slightly bigger for strimming long grass, looking at cow handlebar type to use with double shoulder harness,  don't need a full on jungle buster.  My local preferred dealer sells echo kit, I've never used an echo strimmer however I have had (and still have) echo hedge cutters and I rate them highly. Just wondered what your thoughts are on the echo strimmers.

Regards, Martin.

  • i worked for a company about 20 years ago that bought lots of echo strimmers.  They would have been in the 35 cc size.  They were well build and reliable.  They lasted years with serious abuse and use from multi users.  They are certainly up there with Stihl.  I can't imagine that they are any different, if you have local dealer support I'm sure they will be great.

  • We used and abused an echo strimmer in our early days from our local draler. It went 5 seasons without any issue and never having a service. Went through everything that was thrown at it and was absolutely fantastic.  But after our local dealer was brought out and subsequently relocated we found parts an issue, and the cost of them.

But if your local dealer stocks echo and can offer serviceable parts then I wouldn't hesitate.

  • Big fan of Echo, not got their strimmers but several hedgecutters and blowers been utterly reliable and get abused by multiple users on a daily basis don't think you'll go far wrong.

Agree have an Echo hedge trimmer Nine years old starts and runs like new and never had a problem or service apart from gearbox lubrication .

  • Hi, thanks for the replies. My Stihl is becoming temperamental to start, which doesn't look good at a customers house! So I picked up a new echo machine this week. Has the same engine as my hedge cutter so hopefully all good.

    • Can't beat the feeling buying new kit.

  • Thanks for the replies, picked up a 25cc echo strimmer last week from local dealer. First impressions are that it's very nicely balanced and seems to cut well. Had quite a bit of long grass to cut down on a job this week and it did a good job. Also it idles so I don't have to keep blipping the throttle! It's so nice using new kit.
