Echo PAS-2620 ES or Sthil KM94RC-E

Hello hard working peoples, I would very much appreciate any advice on which split shaft combi set up to buy. I need power unit, strimmer, hedge cutter, pruner and ext. pole.

I am nearly 60, a bit decrepit, with almost 100 regulars to cope with. Am trending towords Sthil as it seems to be lighter but my local dealer, who I have a good relationship with, sells Echo.

Maybe there is an alternative to these two.

Regards

Phill

  • Phil, can give you 6 years ! We have the Stihl km 94 , it's been ok   was bought for use mainly with the tiller and edger attachments. We use non kombi for hedgecutting and strimming so can't comment on those attachments.

However we rate Echo very highly having 2 of their semi long reach hedgecutters which have done enormous amounts of work and been utterly reliable the blade quality is outstanding and rarely have to be sharpened , also have PB770 and PB 8010 blowers from Echo and same story outstanding performance and reliability. Yes the Stihl power unit is 4kg and the Echo 4.8kg . I always think weight is an indication of the quality of the components?

I assume this is something you will be using on a very regular basis ? Unlike us with our Stihl which we only bought for occasional use and was on offer at the time, we would have bought the Echo if it was regular use I just think the build quality and performance is better than Stihl kit. Hope that helps?

      Hi Phil

I have Echo machinery still going strong after many years use and never giving any issues at all

The Stihl 94 kombi have always had one , in fact had four in total but Three were stolen so cannot comment on their longevity .

My current one a few years old now has needed trips back and forth to my mechanic for carb issues , stalling during use and not starting again but nothing serious which cannot be sorted just annoying .

It's now set up as my dedicated blower with the attachment and I now use Stihl cordless kit for other work .

However to answer your question I love the Stihl kombi for it's balance and versatility , I find Stihl in general easy to use and speaking as an old guy now falling apart after many years of hard labour although I even preferred Stihl kombi 94 when I was much fitter but realistically I would go for the Echo with your current workload for durability between the Two .

However other Stihl kit is available for you to consider .

      • Thanks John, maybe if I go to the gym before work the weight difference won't matter so much. Jokes aside think I am leaning to Echo. Hope the aches and pains arn't too for you this coming week :)

    • Thanks for your wisdom Peter, you haven't a bad word to say about Echo I can see :)

  •  I've just got the fs94 strimmer and then the 2 separate heads for the hedgetrimmer and the chainsaw which can be swapped over very quickly.  I'm sure this takes up much less room in the van than the "combi" and might even work out cheaper.

    • Thanks Graham, about to pick up Stihl combi tomorrow but will look at that.

  • Hi Phil , congrats on the hard work!!

I personally have a stihl 94 kombi and use it regularly to cut hedges , as in the other comments mine has had a few issues over the years with carb adjust and shafts , but in general it's hard to beat in my opinion
