  • I've not used this particular product before but I have used a similar product called Fast Point from Stonemarket which is also resin based and requires the paving to be wet.  I must say that my experience of it has been positive to date, easy to use and gives a very nice finish.... the lack of downtime is also a huge benefit.  Long gone are the days of having 3 or 4 patio's waiting to be pointed due to bad weather :-)

  • I would agree with matt, the sweep in's have massive benefits. One of the main ones being that you can use them in wet weather, no more waiting for a dry day to get the job finished. Beware, they can leave temporary staining, nothing major but worth considering. I did my patio with EJ and even though I followed the guidelines and completely soaked the area, there were small areas of staining
  • Haha I wondered how long it would take before someone made a comment like that! Sorry - these joints aren't quite as easy.. if you get me, just the boring paving kind I'm interested in. And to the 2 other replies, I'm glad you've found using this stuff has massive benefits - we are going to use it on the job we're doing at the moment, so we'll see how it goes. ;)

    Playing devil's advocate.

Are resin based products anywhere near as attractive as good old sand and cement?

  • PRO

we use a similar product on all our paving called weatherpoint 365 supplied by Marshalls

yes they are Phil and much quicker to use too, another advantage is the colour is always the same where as the traditional sand and cement can vary if it was not a gauged mix or as we have seen lately buying sand from 2 different builder merchants can change the colour too

if its used the correct way as per the manufactures instructions then you won't have any problems and to date I have not seen any staining on the paving where I have used it, it gives a better finish to the surface if you strike the joints with a brick jointer

the nay slayers complain at the price but you have no issues with any inclement weather like what we have on a regular basis in the costa del north west

    Thanks Mick

I can see the advantages immediately when it comes to weather and labour/time versus material cost argument.

What about striking a raised joint or a raked out joint...is this feasible?

yeah it is feasible but it would take a lot longer to have a recessed finish on the paving joints than a flush finish struck with a brick jointer but the same would apply if you used traditional sand and cement

with raked out brickwork you would use a chariot but this would not be possible with horizontal paving and would rely on the skill of the person carrying out the work to keep an even margin  with the paving

    Brick Chariot

  • We only use easy joint now, I have found that before I even mention it to the customer a lot of them are asking about these resin based products. Although i do still offer the option of traditional mortar joints as some people do prefer it and other are scared of change!!!!
