Yes , Hayter with Briggs engine affected, Honda no. Kohler no. Our 2 stroke use Synthetic 2 stroke oil with fuel stabiliser both Echo and Stihl engines seem ok.
The Briggs engine in my mower seems to run very poorly on some E10, but fine on a different petrol can fill up. I suspect that either the quality of some E10 at petrol stations is iffy, or maybe it degrades worse over time. I also had an older blower die with carb issues, which although was a cheap model had run previously flawless prior to E10.
Not noticed any starting issues or poor running performance to date with E10 .
Two stroke mix of choice is the Stihl red one shot at the pump for accuracy , One shot to five litres of E10
My machine repair mechanic recommended adding fuel stabilizer.
One Stihl hedge cutter is a 2005 HS45 long reach which performs very well .
Also a very inexpensive parker brand mower which starts and runs without issue .
Interesting though my Stihl kombi has the same carb issue on E10 as it did before E10 but less so on E10 but my mechanic keeps it running somehow but never suggested replacing the carb he sometimes cleans the carb but more often than not tweaks the mixture screws .
I always use E10 with no problems in Stihl equipment and mowers. Worth remembering E5 still contains 5% ethanol Why did your carbs need replacing? Dealers are very quick to just fit a new carb rather than stripping he carb down, cleaning it and replacing the diaphragm/metering valve. Guess they're thinking that with an hourly rate of £60+, they could spend an hour overhauling the carb and then it's still not working right so it could end up costing the customer more. Good reason for doing the work yourself if you can. Also the cheap Chinese carb copies are usually pretty good for a fraction of the price............. I've always suspected they actually comeout the factory that makes the "genuine" ones
The key os not to leave E10 in the tank/fuel system. I spend a lot of time on motorcycles when not gardening.... I had one I was selling last year. I had put E10 in it and left it 3 months, in the garage. Would it start? No.
I drained the fuel and carb bowls, put in fresh fuel and away she went.
As an experiment I took a bit of the old fuel and tried to light it, it wouldnt catch, that was in 3 months!!!
Special safety feature. Nonflammable fuel!
crazy how far it's been watered down. practically all my kit inc mowers are battery and have been for years. which have their own draw backs to be fair. but living in a country where the powers that be basically behave like an enemy towards the average man and micro business, if you doing ok it's in spite of them not because of them. it is what it is
You got any Stihl AK stuff? I need a lightweight mower (to carry through houses). Smallest AP mower is bigger than I'd want. There's a small scarifier that matches the AK too....
hi Tim never tried any AK gear, there used to be a very small Viking mower MA339 which took the AP battery, I had one second hand but sold it as was too small to be practical for any of my jobs, it was a real pocket rocket though, so light you could have carried it up 10 flights of stairs to mow a roof garden lawn for example. I think a brand like Bosch or Einhell might provide a lightweight solution for carrying through a house. I have the Einhell scarifier that takes 2x 18V batteries and it's much better than you could imagine for giving small-ish lawns a bit of a tickle
That's worth a look cheers
