driveway aggregate

hi guys, I am currently quoting for a driveway/forecourt that has an old tarmac topping. I am considering for the first time in using a machine to grind the tarmac and underlying stone sub-base to create an equal mix. This will be used to bulk the sub-base and shall be capped with an M.O.T. type 1 stone. This will be put to one side whilst futher depth is excavated. Pre block pave-ing.What is the Q ? well, normally i would ship out the tarmac as big lumps of it just would not create a firm base however by grinding and mix to 20mm I can re-use I think. Has any-one any serious thoughts?

  • firstly can i assume planning consent is given for this I know councils are getting really busy on this now.
personally not sure i would re use tarmac. what is the total depth of sub-base..If its only 150mm then personally i would use mot type 1 for the lot tampered in two layers.
    are you using geotex membranes?
what would the percolation rate be?
obviously costs regarding waste of crusher.

  • thats what they do for roads and farm tracks anyway (you can hire tractor mounted ones for farm tracks ),and thats all they do for some sub bases anyway, good idea.compacts well too.
