Drainage issue for artificial grass installation.

I have a potencial customer who want to install artificial grass on 50m2 slighly  slopping garden with clay soil. He want to use some ground guard tiles to solve problem (advice by his "builder"). 

What would be Your advice please?

    The artificial turf we have had laid, was laid on consolidated sand with hard core base.  I've no experience of ground guard tile with this application, but I wouldn't think that they would be in the place of excavation and a free draining base material - especially with clay soil.
