Interesting how the chap running that Waste carriers License broker thing was also a H&S consultant doing exactaly this...
John, to achieve these accreditations (CHAS, EMS, SAFEcontractor, Constructionline etc ) can be very intensive and time consuming.
You need to be aux fait with the H&S, environmental & equality worlds etc to generate a complete suite of company specific H&S & RAMS documents amougst other items.
Such 'brokers' exist to assist companies through these processes (including ISO 9001/1400 etc). If you take this route at least you are aware of who you are dealing with, unlike the recent Waste Carriers License issue.
The logic is that by paying an outside consultant you achieve these standards "easier" - bit like employing someone to take your driving test (although that example is illegal :-)- but you get my drift....
It is a concept I do not subscribe to due to the cost and not being involved/incharge of my busines processes & operation. Others may feel different.
p.s. for the record, we directly gained our accreditations through our own efforts - like many on LJN. The hard work was worth it.
For SAFEcontractor - absolutely not, Stuart.
As far as I understand it, it is applicable from sole trader through to Ltd/plc companies.
It is more focused on those that do 'commercial' work or wish to obtain "commercial" work.
Perhaps Dan F & Steve W, who have both recently gained SC status, will comment further....
