PRO

I won't name names nut in this last week I've seen landscape and garden bloggers promoting guest blogs on their respective sites.

Guest blogging isn't a crime and it can be a really useful and entertaining way of diversifying content on a blog.

However selling back-links to companies in violation of search engine [OK Google's] terms is a big no-no and get get your page rank penalised or even, in some cases, get sites removed from SERPS.

Check out the article I have just published on Landscape Juice: http://www.landscapejuice.com/2013/03/avoid-selling-back-links-on-your-blog.html

  • Thanks Phil, very useful.
Slightly tangently, but recently I've noticed quite a lot of spammers coming my way via LJN - and a new image-based blog site that has used a load of my pictures (need to say without permission). I only found out by searching google images for something else and spotting one of my images on this site on page 1 of google (way ahead of same pic on my site or on LJN).
Finding my images crop on on Pinterest where they credit and link you seems to be ok and I don't have a problem wth - but this site is awful! It is pretty poor quality and indiscriminate using lots of my "before" pics rather than "afters" in amongst others' transformed gardens. They have put my name - almost appears as if it could be my blog in the page URL. Not a good advert for my business and I would not have given permission or endorsed it in any way.
But the site owners are anonymous, no clue as to who they are or where it is based, and there is no contact info on the site. The only means of contact seemed to be an online form which I once filled in to try to ask for my pics to be removed and went nowhere (or worse).
Am not going to name the site as I would really rather it withered and died....But I'd be interested to know if anyone else has experienced this and/or if anyone has any advice, would greatly appreciate it!
    Cheers
    Jenny
