If you work in the amenity sector and apply weed and pest control products then you have a legal obligation and duty of care to ensure you are carrying out best practice, operating as safely as possible and doing so within the law.
Pesticide availability and application rules are constantly changing - for example see the weed control products which are being removed in 2014.
Having worked in the industry for such a long time I know that out in the field, so to speak, there is very little policing of the practitioners that apply chemicals in gardens and in public places.
But practitioners shouldn't use this lack of administration as a hedge to hide behind. In order to set your business above the rest, it is essential that you know what you are talking about, what rules and regulations apply to you and what alternative chemicals are available should a favourite chemical be withdrawn.
During this quieter time of year, why not consider attending the Amenity Forum - Weed & pest control workshop on Friday 28th February 2014?
Here's the blurb:
This event will cover all elements of the amenity sector, best practice & give an update on the impact of recent policy changes in our industry.
Free to attend - this is a must for anyone within the amenity sector either operationally or involved in other aspects such as contract specification for weed and pest control.
The event is open to anyone within the amenity sector and hosted by Progreen (www.progreen.co.uk) - online suppliers of amenity and horticultural products.
