Seriously? There are so many variables with this question!!!

But generally screws as they are easier to remove and won't work loose
  • Timber tends to shrink and expand during the course of a year, this can force nails to pop out and be raised on the timber profile .
  • Garden Force has a lot to answer for - nail-gunning a deck in an hour and a half was Tommy's specialty!

using a nail gun only with ringshank nails then i would choose nails as you can set the hight leaving a nice flat finish

screws will hold that bit better but you have the head showing and it can tripple fit time

its all each to there own on this i think

must add that i have seen others use long brads which if this is the nail your on about its a 100% no to
  • We always screw, less chance of failure.
  • Screws every time for me.

  • Must experienced landscapers here have seen the effect of the sun drying and warping deck boards - very few nails will hold this amount of pressure. It has to be screws every time. You will soon triple your time going back to re-screw once nailed boards have popped.
  • Screw!
