dead patches on lawn

just at my father in laws house and his lawn has some strange dead patches. does anyone have any idea what they might be?

my first thought is that they look like weed killer patches(he has green thumb look after his lawn) and i dont know what they have put on nor does he.

  • does he have a  dog? or a neighbours dog might be peeing on the lawn which can leave dead patches. you have probably thought of that but it's all I can think of.

      Or over fertilised.
      I'm just going to drag it out and reseed before I go back home it's not much of a job just a mystery!
