Not sure of your location but investigate Veolia Pro-Grow soil conditioner. It's a by-product of their local authority green waste management collections (PAS certified). We use it (bulk) to dress beds, but also sold bagged in our area.
It's dark, richly full of OM and is a good soil dressing/additive and promotes good growth

try Dandy's. They have a very dark soil improver. I have just used it on a job. They also deliver by the ton.
Wickes topsoil is very dark............. I believe it has compost mixed in with the soil.
I've used a fine mulch before from Woodcote Nursery in Wallington. It was advertised as mulch before but now as a soil improver, almost black in colour. Also a company called Earth Cycle/Woodhorn Group I've used before, although they're not local so delivery charges can be a factor. They do something pretty much the same, but will deliver in bulk or 40x40l bags on a pallet. It would be good to find someone a bit closer that would do something similar though
Mushroom compost is pretty dark -- also good council green waste is very black - both cheap in bulk
Our local green waste company produces 1000's cu m of compost which is black and in colour. It makes a good soil conditioner and enhances the appearance of beds. It's very economical at around £25 per cu m collected loose or £50 for a bulk bag. I would think that all similar companies would produce this type of product.
