Cutting height

I have just joined the group and am impressed withthe qulity of posts I have viewed. I recently started my own garden service business and whilst things are going ell, I have lots of questions, which will be separate posts.

I am thinking of buying another lawnmower and one of the areas to consider is the cutting height. None of my customers have in effect a bowling green garden and I wonder what cutting height range I should buy. It is the minimum that concerns me. There appear to be a large number of mowers with a minimum height of 25mm. Would this be OK, or, would people suggest that I go lower?

As a side question, how do I access the BOG pages.

Many Thanks

  • Thanks all - really appreciate your advice.

  • I wouldn't worry about the cut height range... all pro mowers I know of will suit general domestic lawns. I never cut at 25mm. Generally 35-50 on a fortnightly basis.

    • Thanks, Dan. This has putmy mind at rest.

  • 25mm might seem high but the mower will "sink" into the grass so it will appear shorter.  Similar thing with mossy lawns.... the mower will sink so much that if you're not careful, there won't be any grass left!

    • Absolutely. You're not cutting the lawns at the set height at all. It's all relative to the lawn condition. Just go by eye.
