Cutting Grass in the heat

Folks

What's peoples thoughts on cutting grass in the expected hot weather forecast over the next 10/14 days. obviously can cut at a higher setting but would it just be better missing days just letting customers know? yes we have to make a living but i am not just one to take money if its going to damage the lawn longer term. Seen so so many lawns cut almost to nothing by others and takes weeks & weeks to get any health/colour back into them.

Thoughts what will you be doing advising?

I try to anticipate hot weather beforehand and recommend leaving the cut higher in preparation for hot weather and in the event of a hose pipe ban .

You can only advise but cannot enforce but I share your view on not cutting a lawn for the sake of earning money it's counterproductive cutting it short in these conditions as it will just be bald on next visit until it's recovered .

A couple I missed in anticipation previously are now nice and Lush and will withstand topping I just found other work to do in the garden instead of cutting the lawns .

Currently sat in a beer garden in Retford Nottinghamshire and lawns are like straw I'm returning to Wiltshire tonight where we are still green grass. I had a text earlier from a customer to say her mossy lawn is near brown so not to come this week. I'm fine if the clients cancel as mossy lawns aren't big spenders.  The green grass dearests will have all the treatments and extras. Some clients will pay us to mow stripes but not cut the grass, strange but true. I not too sure if we will work some jobs if too hot.

I live in Retford, and I'm going to be missing some cuts as it's just too dry, I have other jobs to fall back on but grass is my bread and butter so I hope we get some rain soon.

  • some lawns not been cut for 4 weeks its that dry and starting to go brown it will not do it any favers been cut or fed it will take about 5 days after substantial rain to start growing again but i think the custermers should cancel the cut in plenty of time fore you to find alternative work and not when you turn up to do the job
