Customising an Ifor trailer for gardening tools?

I'm just about to grow from a little 7x4 trailer to my first Ifor Williams, probably about 10x6 or thereabouts with mesh sides. I've looked around but outside the USA I can't find anyone selling trailer tool brackets. For example, to attach long tools (strimmer, long reach hedge trimmer, etc.) to the inner sides to make best use of the space. Has anyone tried this, and if so, how successfully, and where did you get the bracketry from please?

Part joking, part serious - the roads are better in the US than over here :)

I've seen them in use while working in the US and often thought about them here, but the thought of all your tools being on display, bounced around due to minimal trailer suspension, covered in road crud and 'insecure' would worry the life out of me.

    They're called trimmer racks.

I've also seen them with mounts for blowers/sprayers.

Personally looks pretty easy to walk up to with a pair of bolt cutters and cut the locks off to take the strimmer.

Have you thought about lining the mesh sides with plywood?
It's a project that never got finished for my little trailer(6.5 by 4) I made a work bench to sit at the front and the linings for the mesh with some long thin boxes on for storing small stuff.
I need to finish it with the roof again made from ply opening from the middle both ways so you can flip it over the outside of the trailer when at work but the close and lock when on the move (and when you are going out of sight)
I really need to get it finished will post some pics if I ever get round to finishing it!!
All bits are removable so you can just use it for waste. I just need to get hinges and locks etc for the top to go on:)
  • I wouldn't even contemplate putting anything of value in a trailer where it can be viewed and consequently stolen so easily. I use mine when necessary to carry a large mower....... even then, it's locked to the mesh sides with a cable lock. Anything else of value goes in the van. Main use of the trailer is for prunings etc where it's invaluable

  • A box trailer would be more suitable for the tools. At least they are not on display but it wouldn't be so fun if you were putting the waste in there as well.
  • Thank you all for your valuable advice, as always.
    • I was thinking maybe building a false floor, behind the side flaps of the trailer, and when covered in waste you'd never know was there. Unsure about leaving tools for long though in a trailer even out of sight, plus unsure how to lock the flaps shut.

You'd need to be able to lock the trailer away in a garage or similar to leave anything valuable in it. Mind you I lock my trailers away anyway empty or not!

I hav oftwn thought about doing this on some of the large resi stuff. Not sure how the residents would take it though!!!
  • I would love one of these American set ups, but our roads are just not set up for large vehicles, and parking would be a nightmare.
