Could mobile 3D sensors help map gardens?

Google has just unveiled a prototype smartphone that can calculate 250,000 3D measurements every second.

The data will help people understand and plan the space and motion - elements that are critical to understand before committing pen to paper when designing a garden.

With the ever increasing power and flexibility of mobile apps/computing I can see this technology opening up our ability to map the immediate outdoor space also.

Can you image being able survey the area and topography of a garden and immediately commit the data to a CAD application, for example?

The Google project is called ATAP Project Tango: http://www.google.com/atap/projecttango/
