I have stihl 448vc and I love it, good finish and get about an about a days mowing using 3 ap300 batteries. It's light and quick. No idea on the ego tho. There is already another thread going on battery mowers that's worth a look.
Thats the model am looking at as i have a few stihl batteries do you use this as your daily mower? How is it on long wet grass
you probably need both Dougie
I was hopeing to do away with the petrol mower and just use cordless mower
Posted this on the other thread that Dougie mentioned, got the new Ego 47cm this season, have a fair bit of the ego kit and batteries so went with that. No issues thus far with long/wet grass, would imagine the Stihl is similar but perhaps better in the wet due to the plastic box. Liked the option to add a roller attachment as and when needed with the Ego.
If you go with Ego you'll ideally need at least 3 x 5ah batteries for a days mowing small/med lawns which set you back around £200 p/battery or just charge on site if thats an option.
I already have a few stihl battery for my strimmer i was edge towards the stihl due to haveing batteries was wondert how they cope in long wet grass before i make the move to cordless mower
Having used quite a few different battery mowers, I would say the Stihl ones are relatively good on the wet/long grass. You can get a situation where wet grass goop builds up under the deck and you hear the blade sound gradually change as it strikes the built up layer around the edge. But being battery powered it doesnt object to being flipped on its side for a quick scrape out with a trowel. The other issue I was getting is the box on the collection models doesn't fill so well in extreme conditions and the box full indicator flap drops prematurely. I was cutting a long wet one today so used my mulching Stihl battery mower which did a great job and quickly, and didn't look a mess despite not collecting the grass
How do you find the batteries on the stihl mower i have 4 ap300s just wondered if that would be enough or we you suggest me getting more and the box not fully filling would be another issue
not had my ap300S batteries for very long but they are great in the Stihl mowers, much better run time than the AP300 and AP180 I was using before. To be fair the pickup on the collection stihls is good, just if wet and long blocking can be an issue, that's why I prefer their mulching version for the long grass, helps get the job done quicker, also it doesn't have the mono handle which i am not a fan of
Most of my clients like haveing there garden all boxed rather than have it mulching due to The wet weather we get not sure if am just better sticking with my etesia that will really depend on the fuel prices
