A decent mattock, digging bar and a large and small axe (and plenty of coffee or lucozade/Red Bull), should not be too bad a job at all - especially if you have plenty of trunk height to act as a lever.
Tp be far even large conifers don't tend to be deeply rooted - they spread out instead of being tap root type roots.
Thanks Adam,Mattock ✅,heavy duty crow bar ✅,large and small Axe ✅ good flask of Coffee.using a skip to take the waste.oh and doorstep sarnies.it's going to be a long day.
We would use either our tirfor winch, mini digger, or brute force and ignorance to remove.
A good fencing bar is always helpful and if they're only 6tf tall probably not too difficult.
I took some out last week with a mattock, some I even manged to rip out by hand .
I watched (with relief ....because I didnt have to do it) a builder use hand tools to dig out a conifer hedge, clipped to about 7' - it all went in a skip and no winches and the like were used - hard work though!!
Thankyou to you all, yesterday, hard graft.feeling it today.dug out 9 of 10 of the conifers.another 4 to go next Tuesday. 2,I know I won't be able to did out,so winch on hand,
a stroke of luck for the client though.A neighbour of theirs came across to me and asked what I was doing with the waste, the plan was to hire a massive skip,he new a farmer that would come and take it with those massive red rock trailers for half the price of a skip.it's good to know someone in the know.Anyway, thanks folks for always taking the time to help the ones who want to progress.
Andrew.
do you have a tirfor? pulled 16 12 foot tall conifers out last year in 2 1/2 hrs,
amazing bit of kit, just need a bigger tree to tie the other end of the tirfor to. fortunately i had a large sycamore close by. also a reciprocating saw helps too
Morning Gary, that's some going,I've ordered a high lifting Ratchet farmers farm jack, there's definitely 2 that I need extra force due to very limited access and other shrubs that need to stay and a struggling yew..see how we go.
thanks for your replyGary.have a good day.stay safe in these Gales team.
If I can get a straight pull I use the van and just set off 😁. If not I use a mini digger why work hard when you can sit
