‘Commercial’ high dump mowers

Commercial high dump mowers.

I’ve been using Kubota G21, then G23 HD mower for the last 15years or so.
There are some vulnerabilities/weaknesses on this that frustrate me; the G23 I have is getting very tired and more unreliable - leading me to consider its replacement later this year….

Does anyone here have any experience of John Deere X950 or Etesia 124DX and can share how they are?

Thanks

  • I used an Etesia 124D for about 10 years, when I worked on a large estate. It was a lovely mower to use, very comfortable, manoeuvrable and did a lovely cut. It wasn't great  with damp grass, the chute would clog, but it was easy enough to clear. It was also useless at picking up leaves, for some reason!
It was serviced every year, luckily our local machine mechanics were trained in Etesias and had an expert working for them - many garden machinery shops won't touch them as they're basically a complex hydraulic system on wheels!

I have no experience with the others, I have used Kubota tractors before and I know they're bombproof.
Do Iseki make a hi-lift mower?

  • watching this thread keenly. As I'm keen to change my kubota compact tractor.

I had the etesia 124d out for a demo and it seemed a great bit of kit with a degree of versatility with some of the attachments available. The main thing that put me off is that the cutting deck is as wide as the wheels. For me this meant that where my current kubota can get in tight to a fence or under a hedge to a point I was going to have to either start strimming out a considerable width or else strim it and then do a lap of the lawn with the push mower. But I guess it's up to the type of lawns that you have, if you would mainly large open areas I think it would be more suitable. The ability to mulch at the press of a button also seems good as well.

I also had the buffalo out which I liked better but the petrol machine was working out 3.5k more than a kubota g21hd and the diesel one would be about 8k dearer if my memory serves me right but it would still be cheaper than a 124d or a x950 so might be worth a look for you. What age  is your g23 and how many hours have you on it?
