where abouts in essex? might be able to meet up and chat it through with you?

  • There's no magic as far as I am concerned, why would you look to charge a different rate than your normal rate? We maintain 5 retirement homes, a number of blocks of flats, offices, large wedding garden and I've lost count of the private gardens, all on 12 month contract and I price everything on a pro-rata basis. You know your hourly charge-out rate and should be able to work out how much time you will be on site - just go from there. Don't price up or price down. Good luck, as long as is isn't one of mine......I'm Essex also!

  • personaly i would stick at your normal rate, dont try to undercut just to try to get the job as you will regrett it in the future

Firstly, forget about everybody's rate. Taking that approach puts the cart before the horse.

Secondly, what is more important is your own costs and profit you need. Know your own 3 rates : 1 to break even, 2 to make a reasonable profit, 3 a super profit rate for certain situations.

Thirdly, ensure you know what you are quoting on - ie the serviced & effort needed to perform the job.

Then you can put this together and give YOUR quote.

It's largely irrelevant what others quote if by using 3 rd parties rate makes you loose money or be too expensive and loose the job.

    Your rate is your rate...

I'm experience, price is not the main factor in gaining commercial work - it's all the background you bring to the table - your personality, your ability to close an opportunity, your h&s, your equipment and finally your image - would the client be happy to see your staff in your vehicles using your equipment on HIS site.

Lastly, yes many of us have 'multiple rates for different types of work. The client should be buying your experience & ability to deliver/execute, NOT your time on site. If they are you are then just another commodity item, whose only differentiating element is price.

I'm sure other will have their views as well :-)
  • Asking other people what you should charge is pointless, plus few would throw all their business sensitive numbers out there on a public forum. Join ljn hub and you might get more specific examples.
  • 1/3rd more than your domestic rate as a rule.
