Please could I ask you to be frank and put me in the picture as reguards which course to do.

I do not want to commit myself to a course only for people further down the line to say that is not really worth the paper it is written on.

  • I personally opted for RHS route, I cannot really put into words as to why, as I wouldn't know if it was anymore recognised. Possibly, it was due to wanting a qualification from The RHS as opposed to a local authority education board.
Some may say it is more specialised.
  • All my n.v.q's were city and guilds and although the health and safty side of the course was a joke (having to wear a hard hat to plant a 4ft tree) the course itself was second to none.

My advanced chainsaw and aerial tree rescue was through Lantra.

I think if i had to go through it all again cost would be the main factor for me.

I have personally completed a National Diploma (BTEC but might be C&G now) and I have paid for staff to study and complete the RHS Level 2.

The NDH was 50/50 practical / classroom based and the RHS is 100% classroom based. Depending on what type if person you are might depend on which course would suit best.

The thing I liked best about my NDH is that it allowed me to work at Kew Gardens (Herbaceous and Alpine sections) for my middle year work placement. We could choose where to work and I guess that I was lucky Kew let me in!
