Chippers

Hi all,

anybody had much experience with getting a chipper into a garden with virtually no access?!! Only way in is either through the front door, meandering through the house then up really steep steps or up a footpath then lowering it over a wall!  Problem is it's going to be a huge pile of waste to deal with so will take days with an electric hobby type machine but it seems even a small petrol chipper is damn heavy!  Just wondering if anyone may know of a high output electric or maybe a manageable petrol machine thats any good? I wouldn't normally bother but he's a great client, is 95 years old and I like to try and go the extra mile! Many Thanks in advance,

Ben

Could you lift a fence panel and access from a neighbours garden?  Or, put it bulk bags and lift them over the wall?

I have a Treebuster that will fit through a standard gate but as you say it is very heavy.  You wouldn't lift it over a sleeper, let alone a wall.

  • I have an petrol apache shredder which does what I consider a reasonable job. Certainly a million times better than domestic electric ones. Chips up to about 2 inches and gives a good product for mulching. It's maximum width is 27inches so you'd have a chance of getting it through a house. Weight is about 50kg.  I could get it up steps alright although that's where width may be a problem if they are enclosed. 2 people can carry it easy.  Depends how bothered you are but I'm in Exeter and I'd lend you it if you wanted. Might even sell you it. For some reason I have 2. If you want to ask ring/text 07892903941.

Otherwise I knew someone with an electric Makita which wasn't too bad, but the bulk bags lifted over the wall sounds like a good idea.

  • Hi Ben,Can a1.5 ton mini digger get up the footpath. Use it to lift a small petrol version over the wall. Elite make good small petrol chippers. Compact and  its not too heavy for a digger..

    Best of luck

    • I'd just have a burning bin if he's not in a smoke control zone.
