Does it have to be turf? could you not use topsoil?
Try tolleshunt turf or paynes turf
the wildflower turf is sitting on gabions and soil will fall through
Why not use a landscape fabric?
That is what i thought initially, however because it needs to retain moisture and stop turf drying out in summer months, the turf with a dpm underneath is what the Chairman of the APL advised me to do. He seems to know everything, so i am going with his advice.
Hi Rebecca,
Not quite sure what you mean by cheap? How many rolls will you need..if its a small purchase South East Essex Topsoil do small lots.

I'd suggest hessian sheet then topsoil - same effect as cheap turf,
We used woven landscape fabric on this project, with a seep hose running along to aid irrigation. I like the idea of turf because of the fibre element, but without an artificial barrier, the turf and soil will eventually 'percolate' down into the stone infill. That was 10 years ago and it is now very well established.
Ivinghoe should deliver to you.
Great people great range of qualities.
